What is Wicca
Everything about Wicca is magic, because Wicca is about transformation, creation, and spiritual growth -and this after all is what magic is all about.
The Universe is composed of energy. Everything around you -everything you see and many things you don’t- are composed of energy. You, too, are composed of energy. Your body, which seems so solid, is composed of endless numbers of microscopic particles held together at the sub-atomic level by energy.
Science has taught us this. But the Vedic sages of India have taught this too - for many thousands of years. In Europe the Druids, and after them the Witches, recognized this fact as well. Even the most solid stone is in fact composed of millions and billions of atoms and molecules orbiting each other in the endless and graceful Dance of Life.
The electro-magnetic energy which holds electrons and protons and other microscopic particles in place has had many names; Chi (Asia), Mana (Polynesia), Orenda (Iroquois), Od (German), the Force (Star Wars), and Psychic Energy (contemporary).
Energy is not static or inanimate - it is responsive and dynamic in character. It is like a fluid in it’s movements, and is symbolically likened to water. Yet it is also likened to light and to fire because of it’s effects. In more contemporary times it has also been likened to an electric current in it’s qualities, though it is not so harsh or unpredictable as this. In truth energy is unique unto itself, and only by working with it can you come to understand it -comparisons to other substances give only a rough approximation of what it is like.
We interact with this energy every day - in every second of our lives. It constantly transforms, renews, or changes it’s shape within and around us. This constant change responds to and is driven by our thoughts and emotions in ways of which most of us are unaware, and of which fewer still have any understanding.
The Correllian Tradition follows the three degree system of Traditional Wicca. Today many Wiccan Traditions have moved to a two degree system, eliminating the third degree. We however, favour the traditional system, believing that each of the Three Degrees has an importance of its own.
The Temple of Sedna offer the following courses in Wicca
1st Degree Witchcraft, or Wicca, is a religion. Wicca is not primarily about magic, though it does use it. Wicca is about your place in the Universe and your evolution as a spiritual being. Wicca is about moving forward on your personal spiritual journey - about learning, growing, and becoming the most you can be.
2nd Degree The role of the Second Degree is to take the spiritual knowledge learned in First Degree, and apply it on a practical level –thus uniting Spirit and Matter through action. A Priest/ess of the Second Degree of Clergy should be able to take any role in ritual, and answer most questions about Wicca, whether practical or philosophical. The Second Degree Priest/ess should be able to manipulate energy in ritual and other settings, with reasonable competence.
3rd Degree The symbol of the Third Degree of Clergy is the Pentagram surmounted by the upward facing triangle. This represents the Soul’s return to Source (Goddess) after achieving a perfect union of Spirit and Matter. In this context it symbolizes the ability of a Third Degree High Priest/ess to momentarily unite with Deity through trance, to bring through Divine energy or guidance.

A Witch By Any Other Name
(The Great Wicca vs. Witchcraft Debate)
Author: Mike Nichols
excerpt:
"wicca" and "witch" are the same word.
Wicca is simply the earlier form of the word witch.
"Witch" comes from the Saxon word "wicca". That is a noun with a masculine
ending, and it should properly be pronounced "witch'-ah", not "wick'-ah"! In
the Saxon tongue, nouns had either masculine or feminine endings, depending on
their referents. The feminine form was "wicce", properly pronounced "witch'-eh".
Note the same word was applied to both males and females with only the ending
changed. As the word evolved into modern English, the gender ending was dropped, leaving us with a word that is pronounced "witch", and ultimately spelled that way. When you consider that the Saxon "cc" was pronounced "tch", it becomes easier to understand how the modern word "witch" is derived from the Old English "wicca", and how, ultimately, they are the same word. To say that they are different words, with a different provenance, and different meanings, is to ignore these simple facts. The word "wiccan", although typically used by modern Witches to modify a noun ("This is a Wiccan ceremony."), is not an adjective. It's a plural noun. One wicca, two wiccan. That's the masculine plural ending, obviously. The feminine plural form would be "wiccen" (rhymes with bitchin'). ;) Although in modern English, the "s" or "es" plural ending is the most common, the "an" or "en" plural is not unknown, the most obvious example being child > children. The oldest extant appearance of the word "wicca" can be found in the Law Codes of Alfred the Great, circa 890 C.E. Alfred was a Christian and zealous about converting everyone under his rule to his faith. Those who followed the pre-Christian "superstitious" practices of their Pagan ancestors were called Wiccan, whether they were Alfred's own countrymen, or the Celtic people in the areas Alfred was conquering.
